Arda Güler, the star midfielder of Fenerbahçe Football Team, has officially joined Real Madrid Football Team for a record-breaking fee of 120 million euros. The transfer was announced on Monday, after weeks of speculation and negotiations between the two clubs.
Güler, who is 24 years old, has been one of the most sought-after players in Europe, thanks to his impressive performances for Fenerbahçe and the Turkish national team. He scored 18 goals and provided 12 assists in 38 games for Fenerbahçe last season, helping them win the Turkish Super League title and reach the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa League. He also played a key role in Turkey's qualification for the FIFA World Cup 2022, scoring four goals in six games.
Güler expressed his gratitude to Fenerbahçe and his excitement to join Real Madrid in a statement on his official website. "I want to thank Fenerbahçe for giving me the opportunity to play for this great club and for supporting me throughout my career. I will always have a special place in my heart for Fenerbahçe and its fans. I also want to thank my teammates, coaches, staff and everyone who helped me grow as a player and as a person."
He continued: "I am very happy and proud to join Real Madrid, one of the biggest and most successful clubs in the world. It is a dream come true for me to wear the white shirt and play at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium. I am ready to work hard and give my best for this club and its fans. I hope to win many trophies and make history with Real Madrid."
Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez welcomed Güler to the club and praised his talent and potential. "We are delighted to have Arda Güler as part of our team. He is a young, talented and versatile player who can play in different positions and contribute with goals and assists. He has proven his quality and consistency at Fenerbahçe and with Turkey, and we are confident that he will do the same at Real Madrid. He is a player with a great future ahead of him, and we are sure that he will make our fans happy."
Güler will wear the number 10 shirt at Real Madrid, following in the footsteps of legends such as Zinedine Zidane, Luis Figo and Ferenc Puskás. He will join his new teammates for pre-season training next week, and will be officially presented at the Bernabéu on Friday.
